Day 2

8:00 am – Pick up motorhome at the Motorhome depot (Safety & Maintenance Briefing)

10:00 am – Auckland to Matamata /Hobbiton Tour (170 km @ 2 ½ hrs)

1:00 pm – Lunch at FEZ Kebab OR Fish n Chips, Matamata

2.00 pm – Hobbiton Movie Set Tour (approx. 3 hrs; Adult $79). Revisit Middle Earth at Hobbiton Movie Set, used extensively in both “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” film series. As your guide takes you around the Shire, you’ll discover just how filmmaker Peter Jackson made his movie magic here. The journey across the 4.8 hectare (12 acre) set includes stops at Hobbit holes, the Mill, and the Dragon Inn, where you’ll be able to enjoy a special beverage. Located in a scenic setting with the picturesque Kaimai Range in the distance, this attraction isn’t just for die-hard Tolkien or movie fans. You can also arrange for a farmstay package, or organize a daytime, nighttime, or wedding function on site

Day 3

08:00 am – Agrodome Farm Tour & Show – Kiwifruit orchard, hand-feed sheep, alpacas, etc. (approx. 1 ½ hrs; Adult $66)

11:00 am – Skyline Gondola & Luge Rides (open 9 am – 11.30 pm; Adults $29)

14:00 pm – Rotorua Government Gardens / Rose Garden (Lake Rotorua sightseeing) .Surrounded by lakes and featuring impressive areas of geothermal landscape, the city of Rotorua offers an otherwordly landscape and a welcoming, peaceful environment, with the culture of the native Maori people very much in the foreground. Make time in your Rotorua itinerary to bathe in the therapeutic hot springs and to hike around the colorful, sulfurous lakes. Delve deep into traditional Maori culture by watching performances and tasting local delicacies in one of the many villages surrounding the city, and in the township itself. The internationally acclaimed mountain biking routes of the area provide a challenge for seasoned bikers, as well as a singular perspective on the scenery for those wanting to take the trails at their own pace.

Day 4

9:30 am – Lake Taupo sightseeing Huka Falls (FREE entry) – Recommended. Lying in a caldera created thousands of years ago by a massive volcanic eruption, today Lake Taupo draws visitors with its wealth of sightseeing and recreational opportunities. The scenic lake ranks as New Zealand’s largest by surface area, measuring 616 sq km (238 sq mi); naturally, there’s plenty of room for water skiing, sailing, kayaking, and more. View the Maori rock carvings at Mine Bay from the water, or explore the shore along hiking and mountain bike trails next to the lake. For added excitement, look into skydiving or white-water rafting; alternatively, slow down the pace with a fishing trip or a dip into a natural thermal pool. The range of activities and onsite amenities ensure lots of fun for visitors of all ages.

11:00 am – Taupo to Hamilton (160 km @ 2 hrs)

1:00 pm – Hamilton Gardens (FREE entry) –Take a stroll or catch a performance at Hamilton Gardens, which has dozens of themed gardens and hosts over 2,000 events every year. The many gardens are organized into various departments–paradise, productive, fantasy, cultivar, and landscape–and feature everything from a traditional Victorian flower garden to the unconventional Modernist garden. Events include musical performances, talks on the history of gardens, and cultural festivals. There are also daily tours of the grounds and programming for children interested in learning more about the plants that surround them.

2:00 pm – Hamilton Mosque (Jamii Masjid)

2:30 pm – The Base Shopping Centre, Hamilton (open 9am – 6pm)

4:00 pm – Hamilton to Auckland (125 km @ 1 ½ hrs)

DAY 5

10:00 am – Check-out

Auckland City sightseeing

Auckland Domain (Winter Garden). Auckland’s oldest park, Auckland Domain can also be considered the city’s most interesting green space. The 75 hectare (185 acre) area has been developed around the explosion crater of an extinct volcano, as evidenced by its many “tuff rings,” which form a natural amphitheater. Several sports fields stretch along the floor of the crater, while one of the city’s most-visited tourist attractions, the Auckland War Memorial, sits high up on the rim. Enjoy a leisurely stroll among the towering trees, feed the noisy ducks, and admire the verdant ferns of the winter gardens. If you get hungry during your visit, you can pick up snacks at one of the many kiosks. Alternatively, pack a picnic.

3:00 pm – Return Motorhome
